Online retailers back to talk business at eBay Conference

For some of us, online shopping is a pastime. But for many its business – serious business.

This week over 500 internet retailers and industry experts from across the country will descend on the Gold Coast for the annual Professional eBay & eCommerce Sellers Internet Conference. They will be learning new skills, hearing about new developments and getting important insights from the senior executives at companies such as eBay, PayPal and Australia Post.

The Internet Conference is organised by the Professional eBay Sellers Alliance (PeSA) Australia, a not for profit association dedicated to helping eBay sellers improve their business outcomes.

“I was inspired to bring PeSA to Australia in 2007 by the amazing events that I attended in the US” states Phil Leahy, President of PeSA Australia, in his personal blog. “There just wasn’t an annual event that serviced smaller sellers in Australia, who are really at the coalface of online retailing in Australia. Thirty percent of our sellers turnover under $70,000 but another 18% turn over more than a million. So we have something for everyone.”

While there is a focus on eBay, the conference is designed not just for those using the auction service. It is targeted at online retailers of all sizes, e-commerce executives and other thought-leaders and business solution providers.

Phil says that those who participated in last year’s conference praised the event’s positive energy, variety of relevant topics and inspiring speakers. Here is a video from Phil Leahy with some highlights from the 2010 conference.

The 2011 conference brings together innovative and practiced experts from around the globe to discuss current and upcoming trends, exchange best practices, learn about new products and network with other sellers. According to the event website, online retailers need to think about how to work ON their business, not just IN their business.

Speakers this year include Deborah Sharkey (Managing Director eBay Australia & New Zealand), John Lawson (CEO of Online Urban Clothing), Mark Gray (Managing Director of Channel Advisor Australia), and Andrew Main (Co-Founder Frooition).

Digitalbusiness.gov.au will have two people attending the PESA 2011 conference. Stay tuned for another blog post discussing some highlights from the event.
