Online Retail Forum video highlights with great insights

On 18 February 2011, we held the Online Retail Forum in Sydney. This was a great opportunity for Australian retailers and other people involved in the retail supply chain to talk about the opportunities and challenges that people in the retail business face when dealing with the digital economy.

The Forum went for half a day and was streamed as a live webcast. The full replay is available but today for the first time we’re releasing some videos with edited highlights.

Online retail and the digital economy

The first video is of Senator Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy who gave the opening keynote address and set the scene about the opportunities for the retail sector in the digital economy.



Benefits and challenges of online retail

This video is a panel discussion on the benefits and challenges of online retail in Australia featuring of Paul Greenberg, co-founder of dealsdirect.com and Michael Knapp co-founder of Shoes of Prey.




Michael Knapp, co-founder of Shoes of Prey and Cameron Pullman, CEO of Grey’s Online continue the discussion about the benefits and challenges of online retail.



In this video Deb Sharkey, Managing Director of eBay Australia, talks about eBay’s growth in Australia. She told the forum that many online retailers are experiencing strong growth as shopping online becomes more popular with consumers.



Logistics and delivery for online retail

Once you’ve sold a physical product online, you need to get it to your customer. In this video Carl Hartman, Managing Director of Temando, talks about logistics and distributions options for online retailers.



Ben Somerville, Customs & Regulatory Affairs Manager at DHL, continues the conversation about logistics and delivery best practices for online retailers.



Mark Crawford, General Manager of Postal Product and Business Development at Australia Post, wraps up the panel session on logistics. He says Australia Post recognises the growing importance of online retail and is committed to improving the company’s services to online sellers and shoppers.



Online retail consumers

If you want to avoid online scams, you need to stay informed. Peter Kell, Deputy Chair of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, talks about the importance of educating yourself to avoid online scams and frauds.



This discussion panel focused on what Australian consumers are doing, buying and searching for online. The first speaker was Jason Pellegrino, Head of Strategy and Sales Operations at Google Australia.



Andre Wright, from the Australian Communications and Media Authority talks about new research into the habits of Australian online shoppers.



Andre Wright talks about the popularity of Australian websites with Australian online shoppers and Frerk-Malte Feller from Paypal Australia talks about online payment methods.



Small business innovation

In the final video Senator Nick Sherry, Minister for Small Business talks about how broadband and online retail innovation offer opportunities for Australian small businesses.
